Sign Witness Slips for Public Defender Oversight and Rally for Trans Rights
lgbt-rights rights-of-accused trans-rightsSign Witness Slips for the Illinois FAIR Act
Presently, Illinois is one of just three states without any statewide oversight ensuring counties provide adequate, constitutionally-required representation for accused people with financial need. With zero state oversight, it isn't surprising that counties are universally underfunding their public defense systems, which risks putting innocent people behind bars.
The Illinois FAIR (Funded Advocacy and Independent Representation) Act would create an Office of State Public Defender to ensure counties are meeting their public defense obligations adequately and fairly.
You can support the bill by filling out witness slips for Tuesday's and Thursday's Judiciary Committtee hearings.
